This meant opening heavy plugins with large interfaces just to use their oversampler. That felt wasteful. So the idea was to build something as small and light as possible: just the oversampler, nothing else. The clipper came naturally from another observation: when oversampling is applied to an already clipped waveform, the reconstruction process introduces slight overshoots that push the signal back into distortion. Adding a hard clipper after the downsampling stage keeps the output clean and within limits.
