THE IDEA BEHIND:
I first discovered the
De La Mancha GT
series plugins
years ago and I was
immediately struck
by something unusual:
feeding a
sine wave kick
through them would produce
sharp and aggressive spikes!
A behaviour I had never
seen in any other compressor.
That characteristic became
the sound I wanted
to recreate:
a
native 64-bit plugin
free from the bridge issues
that made the originals
painful to use in FL Studio,
Released only in 32-bit.
Additional inspiration
came from
Acustica Audio ARCTIC
and
GREY
that can achieve
a similar behavior
with better quality details.
So my final goal was
to capture a similar algorithm
at
zero latency
,
wrapped in a
light and small interface
as all my plugins.
The Destroyer's Pixel Excessor
The Destroyer's Pixel Excessor is a free Windows VST compressor by THE DESTROYER, focused on aggressive character, spike-like compression behavior and zero-latency processing.
Main features
- Input gain and output gain.
- Threshold, ratio, attack and release controls.
- Internal sidechain high-pass filter.
- Character knob and wavefolder.
- Makeup gain.
- Built-in 2x / 4x / 8x oversampler for both inputs.
- External sidechain and pixel-perfect oscilloscope.
- Output clip and x2 zoom.
The idea behind
The plugin was inspired by the De La Mancha GT series and their unusual sharp, aggressive spike behavior when processing sine-wave kicks. The goal was to recreate that kind of character as a native 64-bit plugin, without bridge issues, wrapped in a small and light interface.
